CULTURAL AWARENESS IN COMMON CHRONIC DISEASES

Abstract

Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death in the world and an important public health problem
in all countries. Culturally appropriate health care has been proposed as a means to reduce health
differences among ethnic groups. The lack of awareness for different cultures in nurses arises from the lack
of cultural competence education. Learning the ethnically based components of culture contributes to the
creation of cultural awareness. Therefore, it is thought that organizing intercultural nursing education,
creating a program that includes experiential learning, and taking cultural awareness in these programs will
encourage both clinicians and students to contribute to the nursing profession.
